Stecco Fascial Manipulation

Stecco Fascial Manipulation© is a manual therapy method that has been developed in Italy through extensive research by Luigi Stecco, an Italian physical therapist, his daughter Carla Stecco, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, and his son Antonio Stecco, MD, a Physiatrist. It is the most researched and evidence-based soft tissue technique in the world.

It focuses on the fascia, or connective tissue, and considers that the myofascial system is a three-dimensional continuum. This method presents a complete biomechanical model that assists in deciphering the role of fascia in musculoskeletal disorders.

The mainstay of this manual method lies in the identification of specific, localized areas of the fascia in connection with a specific limited movement. Once a limited or painful movement is identified, then specific points on the fascia are implicated and, through the appropriate manipulation of these precise parts of the fascia, movement can be restored.

The purpose of this system is to find and address the cause of the problem, not just the symptoms. Distortions in the fascia can have far reaching effects in the body, causing imbalances and eventually injury and pain in distant areas. Fascial Manipulation is not only an effective treatment tool, but a thorough diagnostic system. It allows the practitioner to assess the fascia as a whole and determine the root causes of imbalances.
